YUMA, Ariz- The man who is accused of attempted homicide appeared in court this afternoon to hear his charges.

In court, the State Prosecutor says the defendant entered his grandparents bedroom and began stabbing his grandmother. His grandfather then intervened to save his wife. Essentially, the prosecutor says the grandfather at that point became a target himself. He also mentions a knife that was used in the initial attack was either broken or lost.

This all started last Friday, around 3 a.m. when Yuma County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic assault case on South Apache Tears Avenue in the Foothills.

Once deputies arrived at the scene they found two victims at the home with injuries. The suspect 18-year-old Jorge Garcia-Aceves, of Yuma, fled into a nearby agricultural field where he was located by deputies and taken into custody.

This afternoon, Garcia-Aceves appeared in court where he is facing three counts. Two counts of attempted first degree murder for domestic violence and one count of resisting arrest.

State Prosecutor, William Katz said, “The defendant returned with the same knife or different knife your honor and continued to attack his grandmother and after law enforcement was called he fled and resisted arrest.”

Garcia-Aceves is scheduled back in court on February 1st and his bond is set at $500,000 cash only.
