YUMA, Ariz.- On December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese which resulted in more than 2,400 deaths. The surprise attack led America to enter World War II and divided the worlds into two groups the allies and the axis.

Today the American Legion Post 19 in Yuma had a memorial service with breakfast to honor those that served during World War II. We spoke with World War II veterans who served during that time and say it’s important to honor and remember what happened to America and we must not forget.

We spoke with several World War II veterans and a few were stationed in Pearl Harbor years after the attack. Andrew Lucas, is a World War II Veteran and he says after the Pearl Harbor attack only one thought crossed his mind.

“I had to go and I figured I was qualified for the new division and I
volunteered other wise I wouldn’t have been in for, but I was ready to go.”

Lucas, also was honored for his service during WWII and received a Purple heart after he was injured during war.
