YUMA, Ariz. – The Dove hunting season has officially begun and people across the country are flying into Yuma County for some action.

The annual tradition has been apart of Yuma County for decades and has brought the community together according to Linda Morgan, who is the executive director at the Yuma Visitors Bureau.

“Dove hunting is a long standing tradition in the Yuma area, we are probably the best place in the U.S. for dove hunting and there’s a lot of reasons for that, generations of hunters coming here, so you know Grandpa is now coming with his son and he’s coming with his son,” says Morgan.

The hunting season brings money into Yuma County after usually a  slow summer, according to Morgan.

“We know that it’s a boost to the economy of anywhere between $2 to $5 million of course when opening day falls on a weekend, we see a lot of traffic, it fills up hotel rooms and restaurants so it’s really good for our economy,” says Morgan.

This weekend is packed with events around Yuma County catering to dove hunters and their families, click here to find out more.
