YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Police Department has identified the victim and suspect involved in a fatal stabbing in a Yuma neighborhood. YPD responded to a domestic disturbance call Saturday in the 1400 Block of W. 12th Lane.
When officers arrived they found the victim, 36-year-old Lanika Ortega, in the driveway with stab wounds. She was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center but died due to her injuries.
Officers said moments after finding the victim’s body her husband, 37-year-old Roberto Ortega, exited the home and assaulted an officer. Police said he tried to take control of the officer’s firearm. Police said the officer tased Roberto Ortega to restrain him. He was then taken into custody.
Roberto Ortega was later booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for the following felony offenses:
* 1st Degree Murder (ARS 13-3601/13-1105.a1.)
* Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer (ARS 13-1204.a.8.a)
* Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer-Attempt to Control Firearm (ARS 13-1204.a.9.a)
