YUMA, Ariz.-
Arizona voters are voicing their opinion on the proposal to make marijuana legal in the state.
Proposition 205 is the official name and if passed it would allow people over 21 to purchase up to an ounce of weed in Arizona. On Friday near Phoenix, a three day forum is happening to talk about issues and ideas of legalizing marijuana. Experts for and against the proposal will discuss the measure. The goal is to educate Arizona voters about the facts of the proposal.
Many Yuma County voters say the proposal should be legalized for medical reasons and business. “I’m going to vote yes and why because I had a brother with cancer and he was using it and it was helping him out,” says Manuel Navarro. One resident says he does not agree with drug use but says it should be legalized to help put an end to the war on drugs. “I’m not for drugs, I don’t take drugs but I’m against it being illegal because it is just destructive.”
Many are voting no because they don’t agree with drug use. Angelica Somozanna says, “I just don’t agree with it. I don’t like it and I don’t like kids smoking it.”
The proposal was put on the ballot after receiving more than 250,000 signatures from Arizona residents.
