
YUMA, Ariz.-
A Yuma man is in police custody after allegedly threatening to kill a Yuma Police Officer on social media. Police say Alexander Bodine made comments on social media to kill the Yuma Police Officer who was working undercover enforcing traffic laws off 4th avenue. The incident occurred on Thursday June, 16th around noon. Police say Bodine was using a fake social media account but that they were able to identify him after an investigation. Bodine was contacted at his residence, taken into custody and later booked in the Yuma County Jail.
In a press release from the Yuma Police Department they stated, “The Yuma Police Department acknowledges that the 1st Amendment gives the right to free speech but that does not include a threat to take the life of another person whether a private citizen or a police officer. When a threat to cause bodily harm to anyone is posted on social media it will be taken seriously and investigated.”
The undercover officer was able to assist other officers in 47 traffic violations in one day.
