Somerton man arrested on drug possession charges

SOMERTON, Ariz. – The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man after they found drugs and firearms inside his home. YCSO says Thursday at 2 p.m. investigators along with the Yuma County Narcotics Task Force, served a search warrant at a residence in the 12500 block of S. Somerton Ave. Investigators were led to the residence through an anonymous tip received via the Sheriff’s Office website regarding suspicious drug activity coming from the home. During the investigation, information was obtained which led to the issuance of the search warrant.

During the search of the residence, two firearms were located—one of which had been reported stolen during a vehicle burglary to the Yuma Police Department. Also seized during the service of the warrant was approximately three grams of cocaine, numerous items of drug paraphernalia and 20 electronic devices including tablets, cell phones, and digital cameras.

Jose Castellanos, Jr, 26, of Somerton was arrested and booked in to the Yuma County Detention Center on numerous charges including possession of stolen property, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
