
YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Police Department is searching for a teen who allegedly threatened members of a local employment center with a machete.
Officers said Tuesday at 3:10 p.m., YPD responded to the Yuma Private Industry Council (YPIC), located in the 3826 W 16th St., for a disturbance with a weapon.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the staff of the YPIC charter school who reported that a 17-year-old student became upset that his family had to be called. Police said he left YPIC and then returned with a machete and made threats to staff. The teen then fled before police arrived.
The school was placed into a lock down status for approximately 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.
Officers identified the suspect and went to his home where the weapon was located. Officers have been in contact with family members who are cooperating with the police. Officers say they will continue to look for the suspect.
