YUMA, Ariz.-
A new Arizona House Bill would allow parents to opt their children out of statewide testing.
House Bill 2056 is sponsored by Tucson representative Christopher Ackerley.
The bill has been proposed before but never passed.
Right now statewide assessments help rate each school district.
Yuma Elementary School District One currently has a ‘b’ rating. We asked the Superintendent for Yuma Elementary School District One if he’d like to see state testing stick around.
“I think we need to have some. I think we need to have some data to make sure that we are on track. I believe that we need to be accountable,” Dr. Darwin Stiffler said.
Stiffler says statewide testing usually lasts four days every school year.
