YUMA, Ariz. – Under head coach Tom Minnick, the Arizona Western College Matadors football program is making it a yearly tradition of sending it’s best and brightest off to Division 1 college programs.
During this year’s National Letter of Intent Signing Day, two of their own are now taking the next step forward. #1 overall JUCO recruit Jonathan Kongbo had de-committed from Tennessee several weeks back and had other big time schools such as Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida State and USC among his top five. But, hours before the official ceremony took place, Kongbo announced via Twitter that he was signing his letter of intent with Tennessee.
Kongbo will be a force to be reckoned with in the SEC, as he was amongst the leaders in sacks and tackles for loss in the WSFL this past season.
Meanwhile, his defensive teammate David Luafatusaga pulled off a surprise move on signing day. The Hawaii native had made his commitment to Ole Miss for the past year, but had made the last second switch to Utah hours before the official ceremony at AWC.
Luafatusaga was one of the conference leaders in total tackles and tackles for loss this past season, and will be a welcomed addition to a Utes defense that has shown itself as a program strength in recent years.
