YUMA, Ariz.-

The Yuma City Council passes a resolution for a code of conduct between council members and staff tonight after a string of confrontations between members stating council members need to be professional when discussing ideas and not use abusive or demeaning comments.

The council has been discussing the establishment of guidelines for years now but do to a recent allegation of a council member assaulting another member the issue has been brought up again.

Council member Leslie McClendon says this will help keep members accountable for their actions and is a good stepping stone for what they are trying to accomplish.

While the majority of the Council think this is a good idea, council member Cody Beeson says different, “I think it’s silly.” Beeson says the reason these guidelines needed to be passed is because of one member, “there seems to be a council member that just wants to be disruptive,” said Beeson.

Council member Beeson is referring to Council member Wright. Wright accused Deputy mayor Thomas of assault last month during a meeting and pressed charges. Yuma County Sheriffs office investigated those claims and the charges were dropped.
