YUMA, Ariz.-
A poll by the Wall Street Journal says 71% of Americans think that mass shootings and random acts of violence are now a permanent part of american life. We spoke with several residents here in Yuma, many with different opinions on if mass shootings have become a part of American life.
“I think it is part of the culture here because of the fact that guns are so easily to get,” Claude Charrois said.
Charrois says that Canada’s stricter gun policies prevents a lot of mass shootings. But not everyone agrees with getting stricter gun policies in the U.S.
“Some people think it’s a gun problem but guns don’t kill people, people kill people,” Dan Taylor said.
There’s been over 300 mass shootings in the U.S. this year according to Shooting Tracker.com which references back to several of our affiliate news stations across the country.
We asked residents what they thought was the cause of some of the mass shootings.
“Internet and a lot of Mental illness, a lot of drug addition, there just so many faucets to this difficult very problem,” Taylor said.
We asked if this problem is a permanent way of life here in America?
“It’s just a sign of the times a fad type thing,” Harry Hengl said.
Whether or not mass shootings are a part of American life. Guns remain the center focus for one resident.
“There’s just too many guns available here,”Charrois said.
