YUMA, Ariz- It’s official, Arizona Western College and Arizona State University have teamed up together to help students achieve their common goal of becoming a graduate.

Students at Arizona Western College will be able to complete a bachelor’s degree in three areas as of January of 2016 to meet local workforce needs.

ASU’s President, Dr. Michael Crow said, “I’m excited about working with AWC to get three bachelors degrees on the ground. Fully emerged and face to face instruction. It’s all of that at the end of the day trying to create more opportunity for more students and more opportunity for social mobility and more opportunity for educational advancement.”

AWC president says Arizona state has offered courses since 1963 when AWC was first initiated. However, offering programs opens a whole new window of opportunity for some students that otherwise wouldn’t have had that as an option.

AWC’s President Dr. Glenn Mayle said, “Bringing it to AWC the students here can complete two years and then two years through the university. Prior to that course the students would have to complete two years then have to relocate and many of them have to leave their jobs to complete their degree. Then come back and get another job. So this is going to be a real boom economically. It’s going to help the whole economy.”

ASU’s new bachelor degree will be in criminology justice and criminology and a degree in organizational leadership starting this spring. Another degree one could get would be in secondary education which will be added in the fall of 2016.

ASU is offering a reduced level of tuition for Yuma students. If you’d like to know how you can receive the reduced price or in need of financial aid assistance you’re encouraged to visit your advisor on campus.
