YUMA, Ariz- Online shopping is convenient, easy, and quick.
One Yuman said, “Saves time. I don’t have to go out and be in the hot looking for what I can get online.”
Another online shopper said, “Ebay is nice. I can get a lot of stuff cheaper there than anywhere in town definitely and they offer free shipping all the time.”
But before you start adding items to your cart, make sure you are up-to-date and have the latest security software, web browsers and operating system.
According to Threat Metrix, keeping a clean machine is the best defense against viruses, malware, and other online threats.
One Yuma resident said, “I don’t worry about that because I always keep all my stuff protected.”
However, there still are cyber criminals out there and Arizona and California rank among the top ten states for online fraud.
The data includes the intersection of locations that have the largest data centers with identities that aren’t real and have been compromised before in recent breaches.
Hosted data centers in the U.S. are being used by cyber criminals to actively exploit stolen identities from recent data breaches. For example, rented online servers using stolen credit cards.
One Yuma local says this doesn’t effect his decision to continue shopping online because he believes its better than carrying any type of credit card.
He adds, “She used a debit card several years ago and somebody in Canada used it a few days later. And we had just been at a restaurant to eat.”
