Voting underway for Arizona primary election

YUMA COUNTY, Ariz.- Voting is underway for the Arizona primary election, with many key races throughout Arizona and Yuma County. The U.S. Senate race is heating up, with current U.S. Senator John McCain trying to defend his seat against several other candidates, including Kelli Ward. The winner of that race will advance to the general election in November and most likely square off against Democratic candidate Ann Kirkpatrick.

On the U.S. Representative side for District 4, incumbent Paul Gosar will be running against Ray Strauss.

At the local level, there are three Yuma County Board of Supervisors seats up for grabs. The District 1 race has Bob McClendon Jr. going up against Martin Porchas and Agustin “Augie” Tumbaga Jr.

The District 3 race has incumbent Russ Clark going up against Darren Simmons.

In the District 5 race, on the Democratic side Lynne Pancrazi is competing with Normal Nelson. On the Republican side, Connie Uribe is going up against Don Scarff. The winner for each party will square off in November.

For the San Luis City Council, three seats are up for grabs. There are seven candidates running for those seats.

In Somerton we are following the race for mayor. Victor Lozano is going up against Jose Yepez. There is also a race there for the Somerton City Council. There are three seats available on the council, with nine candidates vying for those spots..

Voting Centers open Tuesday at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. with first results coming in no early than 8 p.m.

If you have an early ballot you can drop it off at any “Mega Center” or at the Yuma County Recorder’s Office at 410 Maiden Lane by 7 p.m. Tuesday.
