YUMA, Ariz. – Summer temperatures are here and you want to make sure you’re staying hydrated and watching your health.
Mike Erfert with the Yuma Fire Department said, “For those who have been in Yuma for several summers you know that the temperatures can rise and the best way to protect ourselves is by staying hydrated.”
Some symptoms of heat exhaustion include sweating, weakness, fatigue and nausea. Erfert mentions if you take care of your health properly it could result in a stroke.
He adds, “Heat illness is a progression. And when you start ignoring the symptoms is can get worse and worse. And culminating in the worst is a heat stroke.”
Erfert says if you’re thirsty then you already aren’t drinking enough water.
“Increasing your water intake. And normally, you’ll start responding to that, but if you don’t, this could be a medical emergency and calling 911 and being checked out by the medics is what it calls for,” said Erfert.
