YUMA, Ariz. – The Cibola softball team is having a dream season. The Lady Raiders own an impressive 28-1 overall record, they have dominated all their Gila Valley opponents and they hold the number 1 spot in power points among Division 3 teams.
Going into their home finale against Gila Ridge, Cibola’s only loss of the season was back in late February. Meanwhile, the Gila Ridge Hawks have hit a little bit of a rut; losing two of their last three games. They would like nothing better than to spoil their arch rivals 22 game win streak and potentially knock them out of the number 1 ranking.
The contest would start off as a defensive battle, as both teams failed to put any runs on the board in the first 2 innings. But, the section champs would break through in a big way; as they would score nine times in the third and fourth innings combined.
It would be too much for the Hawks to overcome. The Lady Raiders sweep their arch rivals this season, getting the 10-0 win. The gold and black’s Madison Sierra would pitch a complete game shutout.
