
YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Police Department arrested a man Friday night after he allegedly took three people hostage for about one hour.
At approximately 8:15 p.m., officers with the Yuma Police Department responded to the Vincent Nelson Apartments, 2030 S Ave. A, for a report of a disturbance. YPD said upon arrival officers saw a 30-year-old man run inside an apartment, and he refused to answer the door. It was learned the man was possibly armed and was not allowing two juveniles and another adult man to leave the home. Verbal contact was made with the man and he refused to release the other occupants.
The Department’s Special Enforcement Team arrived on scene and continued negotiations with the man. After approximately an hour the suspect surrendered to officers and was taken into custody. The three other occupants were released without injury.
