YUMA, Ariz.-

St. Patrick’s day is a time to celebrate but the Yuma Police Department and the Department of Public Safety are warning drivers to stay safe..

“If your driving is impaired in any way shape or form. You could receive a citation for that. You could be arrested for that you could end up spending your night in jail,” Yuma Police Officer Joe Franklin said.
The legal limit of alcohol if you’re driving in Arizona is .08. Which means if you have more than that level of alcohol in your system you could be going to jail, facing thousands of dollars in fines.

“It’s important to understand that if your going to go out drinking tonight or through out the weekend for St. Patrick’s Day that you find a designated driver or take a cab home,” said DPS Sgt. Ben  Trueba.

Taxi services in Yuma are already taking calls. If you plan on driving and need to leave your car behind, some tow companies will tow your car back home for free.

“There’s going to be an increased number of officers out. It’s going to be through the weekend,” said  Trueba.

For those who are planning on being the designated driver, some bars say they will give you free non alcoholic drinks through out the night.
