YUMA, Ariz. – Yuma city council members approved the bid to a local contractor who will complete the Fourth Avenue and 16th Street improvements.

Five companies put out a bid to work on the improvement project.

City of Yuma Public Affairs, Lucy Valencia said, “It is one of Yuma’s largest intersections. We want to invite the community to come and voice their opinion if they want to.”

Valencia says out of the several companies who would put out a bid the city recommended that the bid be awarded to a local contractor.

Valencia said, “The bid will go to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder.”

Unanimously the council members choose to approve the lowest bidder, Cemex Construction Materials, Wednesday night at their council meeting.

Council member Gary Knight said, “No matter what direction you come into town, you end up at 16th street and Fourth Avenue. It will no longer be a bottle neck, it will be attractive. We have businesses wanting to locate there.”

The construction zone will run from 15th to 17th Street along Fourth Avenue and on Second to Sixth Avenue on 16th Street.

Knight said, “It’s going to be very attractive when it’s done. It’ll be a jewel for the crown that is Yuma.”

The contract is a 300 day timeline to complete the work.
