YUMA, Ariz.-
September is National Preparedness Month, and with the flooding and power outages that happened across Yuma County, Fire officials want you to be prepared.
Mike Erfert with the City of Yuma says that residents need a plan of action before an emergency occurs. They should know where to go and what to grab when an emergency happens.
One of the items they should bring is a 72 hour preparedness kit that has water, food, band-aids, a flash-light and other little necessities that will last 72 hours. The reason for 72 hours is because that is the average amount of time it takes for outside help to come in to the affected area.
The last bit of advice is information. People need to know how to handle these kind of situations and know what to do.
For more information, there will be an Emergency Preparedness Expo at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building, 8551 E. 36th St. There will be displays and demonstrations of different Emergency Preparedness ideas. YFD will be instructing Compression Only CPR classes, and the American Red Cross and other organizations will be on hand to answer questions. Everyone is invited and admission is free.
