YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Police Department (YPD) says officers have responded to several incidents this week of a man and a woman approaching young students and trying to lure them into their vehicles.

3:30 p.m.

Yuma police say the driver of the white SUV came into the police department and spoke with an officer.

The man stated that students threw something in the road and almost hit his vehicle. He only stopped to let them know that they should not do that.

He did ask where they lived and if they were from the area. Officers say the students involved were interviewed and stated a student did throw a piece of ice cream into the roadway and the vehicle did swerve around it. Students confirmed that the driver told them they shouldn’t to do that. He asked where they lived and they gave the man false addresses and left.

YPD says the case has been closed.

10:58 a.m.

YPD says Tuesday at approximately 4 p.m., someone reported six Castle Dome Middle School female students were approached by an unknown man and an unknown woman in the 8500 Block of E. 24th St. All of the students who reported the couple were asked where they lived according to police.

Officers say witnesses reported the man and woman claimed they were nice people when approaching students.

The suspects are described as a Hispanic man, in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5’8” and approximately 200 pounds with black hair and a receding hair line. He also has a mustache and partial beard and was wearing black round sunglasses. He was last seen wearing dark colored pants, a dark colored polo and tennis shoes.

The woman was described as white, early to mid-20s, wearing gray tights with running shoes. She has blonde to brown hair in a pony tail wearing brown sunglasses. She is thin to husky build.

The vehicle is a newer white four-door SUV similar to a Chevy Traverse.

Another report was made Wednesday at approximately 4:17 p.m. A 9-year-old girl was walking home from Otondo Elementary School when she was contacted by a man in the 8300 Block of E. Topeka Pl. The driver of the vehicle motioned to the girl with his hand to come towards the vehicle. Officers say the girl reported running home as fast as she could.

The suspect is described as an older Hispanic man wearing reading glass. The suspect’s vehicle is described as an Army green or dark green older model Jeep Wrangler.

YPD encourages anyone with any information about these suspicious incidents to please call their investigators at (928) 373-4700.
