YUMA, Ariz. – The city of Yuma heritage and Medjool date growers hosted the annual Yuma Date Festival, a place for people to come learn and taste dates.
Dates are sweet honey-like tasting fruits that are grown here in the desert southwest.
There was live entertainment put on by different Yuma County high schools. Vendors had chocolates and other locally grown food for sale and different recipes and ways to cook dates were shown as well as cook books to pick-up.
Yuma is to the largest Medjool date producer in the world and the festival is a great place to see the many different types of dates.
Imperial Date Gardens says, Medjool dates originated from the middle east and were brought here to grow because they grow perfectly in the desert southwest climate.
