YUMA, Ariz. – Residents in the desert southwest have very different opinions on President Obama with his final State of the Union Address Tuesday night.
After a new CBS New York Times poll which shows Americans are divided on what the president has done in office. 46% approve of his job performance while 47% disapprove.
We wanted to see what local residents had to say on the matter and the views are as diverse as you may expect.
“For me as a Democrat I think he’s done very well. I approve of the Obama Care,” said Yuma resident Valerie.
“I disagree with everything he’s done because he’s damaged the United States a lot,” said Michael Wilkinson who also lives in Yuma.
According to the White House, the unemployment rate is lower than it’s been in more than seven years. They say American manufacturers have added nearly 900,000 jobs over the past six years.
We asked Yuma County Supervisor Russ Clark on what he thought the next president should focus on.
“The next president needs to focus on productivity and getting people back to work,” Clark said.
Clark says a lot of people aren’t accounted for in the unemployment rates.
