Sean Penn says he planned on traveling through Andrade into Mexico for his secret interview with El Chapo.
According to the Rolling Stones article Penn says how easy it was to cross into Mexico by traveling through the Los Algodones border near Yuma.
“I’m familiar with the crossing- papers are not checked and vehicles are waived without scrutiny,” Penn said in the article.
Later in the article he says he didn’t follow through with his plans to travel through Andrade.
We reached out to Border Patrol about this and they declined to comment as the travel references Mexico’s protocols.
Residents shared mixed emotions on border security.
“I’ll tell you there’s a lot of dangerous people running around from all over and not much you can do about it. Once in awhile they get free,” Floyd Schaefbauer said.
The Los Algodones border is one of 71 traffic check points used to deter illegal immigration and smuggling.
