SAN LUIS, Ariz. – The two long standing area prep boys soccer titans met for the first of two season contests that would help determine the next Gila Valley section winner. Both the Kofa Kings and San Luis Sidewinders have battled one another for the top spot the last few seasons.
The winner of this match would have the inside track on the section; barring they avoid losses from any other section opponents.
Home field advantage for San Luis payed off early, as the Sidewinders rattled off three consecutive goals that gave them a significant lead that would hold well into the second half. But Kofa’s Angel Lopez would lay a centering pass to Emmanuel Fuentes, who would score the first of two consecutive Kings goals to cut the deficit to one goal.
But the rally would prove to be too late; San Luis holds on to the 3 to 2 win.
