YUMA, Ariz. – Yuma sees an influx of people with dove hunting, winter visitors, and school back in session. That being said – Rural Metro Fire Officials want to remind “out-of-towners” and local drivers to pull over to the side of the road for emergency vehicles responding to a call. They say some drivers tend to stop where they are at but the law requires drivers to pull over – those who don’t comply could be cited.
“It doesn’t really matter where you come from whether you are a local or a winter visitor, we really prefer you pull to the right for any type of emergency vehicle, whether it’s an ambulance or a patrol car, or a fire truck. If can hear their sirens and see their lights you really need to be pulling to the right,” said Charly McMurdie with Rural Metro Fire. Even if a car is already in the shoulder try to align yourself as far right as possible. Fire officials also add drivers with newer cars less than three years old should crack a window open to hear emergency vehicles, because they tend to be more sound proof.
