YUMA, Ariz.- The Department of Arizona Education announced on Monday that students scored low on AZMerit testing. We spoke with Dr. Darwin J.Stiffler who is currently Superintendent of Yuma School District one and he says that he has answers to why the test scores are so low.
“The new test is different and the test is different than the standards and
the test is purposely more difficult than the standard. The first test was
to easy it another way to say that, so student aren’t going to score as
proficient that is a true statement.”
There is currently testing in the classrooms this week in Yuma District 1 schools as a preparatory for AZMerit in the spring. Principal Baumgarner of Desert Mesa elementary has this advice, for parents to prepare their students.
“Just be positive and encourage your students to best they can do and it
will show us what they have learned.”
