YUMA, Ariz.- Governor Doug Ducey announced earlier this month his plan to give more money to public schools in Arizona.

UPDATE: Arizona Legislature had a special session last night to consider a school funding plan.

Lawmakers have come up with a plan that is a mix of both Democrat and Republican ideas.
Arizona schools would receive additional money over 10 years. About 60 percent would come from increased withdrawals from the state’s permanent land trust fund, and the rest from the general fund.

Representative Charlene Fernandez of District 4 says Democrats wanted to use funds from the general fund only and Republicans wanted to use the money from the permanent land trust fund.

Lawmakers are expected to deliberate the proposed $3.5 billion settlement over the next three days.
